It's here! The first shegotgame Newsletter.
Hi friends and strangers!
Welcome to the first edition of The shegotgame Newsletter, where we’ll cover the intersection of sports, style, sneakers and sustainability. The newsletter has been a long time coming, ever since I started writing and blogging less and consulting more. You can read more about why I felt it was essential here on the about page.
Before we get into the weekly analysis, opinions and news - I think it’s important to take a moment to set the tone and define what I mean by sustainability.
Now sustainability has a very wide definition and seems to have a different meaning to every person - much like organic or clean when it comes to defining and sectioning products in the marketplace. So when I say sustainable, I mean the very standard definition of maintaining at a certain rate or level without depletion or destruction of resources, people and the planet. Now it’s impossible to have that definition and not look at both colonialism and capitalism as unsustainable. They are both movements that literally based on the stealing of resources and destruction of people and our planet.

Is it possible to be a sustainable human if you live in a capitalistic society? Yes, but it takes more than just buying carbon offset credits or another pair of ethical beige pants (why are sustainable brands always so generic in their palette?). Being sustainable is not something that is only accessible for a certain demographic - it’s just being marketed as such.
To be mindful, it’s of the utmost importance to be intersectional. I wasn’t always sure how to define myself as an environmentally minded person that is equally invested in social justice, civil rights, - I didn’t want to feel like another tone death, whale hugging white girl (but seriously don’t try to hug a whale). However, when I saw the definition on @greengirlleah’s account and the @intersectionalenviromentalist page - I felt both seen and relieved!

The aim of this newsletter and The shegotgame Podcast isn’t to give you all the answers as our world is evolving everyday, but I can promise to share news, interviews, resources and occasionally products with context, constructive critique and of course, endless enthusiasm and curiosity.
If you have any burning questions or comments, feel free to submit a voice message to the podcast here or leave a comment. If you enjoy the newsletter, please recommend it to friends and strangers for analysis, discussion and occasional rants and raves.
Stay safe and stay true,
Megan
